TEACHING

Sarah serves on the Board of Directors for two non-profit organizations: the Mississippi Coding Academies and The Bean Path.

Sarah’s excellence in teaching is recognized with her receipt of the 2020 John Grisham Master Teacher Award, one of the most prestigious awards for faculty at Mississippi State University.

RESEARCH

Sarah studies the factors that influence and motivate students to enroll and persist in computing majors, with particular focus on women, racial minorities, and persons with disabilities. Which pre-collegiate experiences influence them to enroll?; Which stakeholders influence these students in their decision-making process?; What programs are effective in impacting their persistence on the computing pathway?

SERVICE

Sarah's belief in servant leadership is evidenced through her service activities. She co-founded the Mississippi Alliance for Women in Computing and the Bulldog Bytes program while at at MSU. She co-founded the Last Mile Education Fund, an organization that enables computing students throughout the United States to overcome financial obstacles that might otherwise interrupt their educational journey.
